Class 1 is the strictest. Explosive substances are subject to separate requirements on almost every point: vehicle, route, parking, security, documents. That is why the module is set apart and the course lasts longer than the others.
What to prepare in advance
For ADR the list is shorter than for Code 95. Copies are sent by messenger, and the originals are needed at the training itself.
- An identity document — ID card or passport

- National driving licence
- A valid ADR (ДОПНВ) certificate — only if you are taking a refresher course
There is no separate length-of-service requirement for ADR: an open category and a valid licence are enough to join the course. If the previous certificate has already expired, call us — the procedure will differ from a scheduled refresher. The full list with explanations is on the Documents page.
What class 1 gives
The first class covers explosive substances and articles: industrial explosives for quarries and construction, initiating devices, pyrotechnics, ammunition. Working with them is regulated more strictly than any other class, and clearance for it is part of neither the basic course nor the tanks module — it is obtained separately.
The programme covers the compatibility of loads and mixed-loading prohibitions, requirements for the route and parking, security and escort, actions in the event of a road accident or a fire near the load. There is almost nothing generic here: most of the lessons are built around specific requirements for specific compatibility groups.
Who should take the full course at once
The logic is simple. If you know for certain that you will carry only chemicals in drums, the basic course is enough. If the picture for the coming years is unclear, or you are job-hunting and do not want to miss offers, the full course settles the matter at once: the certificate shows all classes from 1 to 9 and clearance for tanks.
The difference in time between the tanks course and the full one is a single day. The difference in the number of available vacancies is considerably greater, and that is why experienced drivers more often take the full course, even when there is no specific order for explosive substances yet.
The certificate is valid for five years regardless of the chosen programme. Then comes a refresher, and there is no need to take the full course again if you apply in good time.

Why class 1 stands apart from the rest
Explosive substances and articles are the only class for which a dedicated training block exists. The reason is that the other classes are dangerous under certain conditions: a leak, heating, contact with water. Class 1 is dangerous in itself, and a mistake here gives no second chance.
Hence the separate requirements: the compatibility of groups and subclasses with each other, limits on the quantity per vehicle, escort, routes and parking places, the procedure in a road accident. This is not an extension of the basic material but a logic of its own.
Who specifically needs the full course
Those who carry pyrotechnics, ammunition, blasting devices, industrial explosive materials. And those who want the maximum clearance in advance: the full course covers the basic part, tanks and class 1 at once, so there is no need to come back to training a year later.
If class 1 does not appear on your runs, the full course is not needed — the basic one or basic with tanks is enough. The general concepts are on the what ДОПНВ is page.
- Application — by phone or messenger. Tell us what you carry and how — the programme depends on it.
- Documents — identity document, tax number, driving licence. No length of service required.
- Classes — in person, in an equipped classroom. The Regulations do not provide for a distance format.
- Exam and certificate — an ID-1 plastic card of international standard, valid for five years from the exam date.
Does the full course include class 7?
No. Radioactive material is a separate specialisation with its own requirements. If you need it, call us and we will explain the procedure.
Who really needs class 1?
Carriers of explosive substances and articles: mining, construction, industrial blasting, and the related transport for these industries.
Can I take only the class 1 module?
With a valid basic certificate — yes. Class 1 is not issued without the basic part.
How do EX/II and EX/III vehicles differ?
They are different types of vehicle for carrying explosive substances, with different requirements for construction and equipment. Which one is needed depends on the subclass and compatibility group of the load.
Is it worth taking the full course in advance?
Yes, if the nature of the goods may change. It is faster and cheaper than adding separate modules later.
Is a certificate with class 1 valid in EU countries?
Yes, an international-standard certificate is valid in the states party to the agreement.
