How long the document lasts

The term of validity is five years from the date of issue. This is set by clause 30 of Procedure No. 789 and is the same for all programmes: whether you took a five-week initial course or a five-day periodic one, the document is still valid for five years.

The expiry date is printed on the qualification card itself — this is field 4b. Next to it, in field 4a, is the date of issue. Do not confuse this date with the validity of your driving licence: these are two independent documents with different terms, and they usually expire at different times.

What renewal takes

The periodic course. That is 35 hours, roughly five days of classes. There is no need to return to the initial programme — and that is the main thing worth knowing about renewal.

The question "but if I havenʼt worked for three years, will I have to train again?" is one we hear all the time. No. The length of the break does not affect the programme: renewal is done via the periodic course regardless of when you last got behind the wheel of a truck.

When to start

A month to six weeks before the date in field 4b. The reason is simple: the course runs in groups, and time passes between your call and the start of classes while a group fills. If you start a week before the term ends, you risk being left without a valid document for several weeks.

And without a valid document you cannot work international routes — not even for a day. For the carrier it is also a matter of licensing conditions: since 9 September 2025, confirmation of driversʼ professional competence has been part of their staffing requirements.

You can renew early

There is no need to wait for the last month. Many drivers take the periodic course in advance — in the off-season, during holidays, between contracts. That way you choose a convenient time yourself rather than fitting around a deadline.

If the term has already expired

Nothing terrible has happened. The Procedure provides for no penalty programmes for lateness: you take the same five-day periodic course and receive new documents for another five years.

The only consequence is that, for as long as you have no document, you cannot carry out the transport it is required for. So the price of lateness is measured not in extra training but in downtime.

If the card is lost or damaged

The training centre enters the details of every document issued into the state information system "Confirmation of the professional competence of drivers of vehicles providing passenger and freight transport services". So the fact of issue is recorded, and losing the plastic does not make it disappear.

What to do depends on how much time is left until the term ends and the circumstances in which the document went missing. Call the centre that issued it — they will tell you what to do in your particular case. If we issued the document, call us.

Two dates people confuse

• The validity of Code 95 — field 4b on the qualification card. Five years, renewed via the periodic course.
• The validity of the driving licence — a separate document and a separate procedure. It has nothing to do with Code 95.
• The validity of the ADR certificate — also five years, but this is a third document with its own rules. If you hold both, the dates are almost certainly different.

The simplest thing is to photograph the card as soon as you receive it and set a phone reminder two months before the date in field 4b.

1. Check the date. Field 4b on the qualification card is the date after which the document is no longer valid.
2. Call a month to six weeks ahead. Or earlier, if you want to choose a convenient time.
3. Periodic course. 35 hours, about five days. There is no need to take the initial programme.
4. New documents. The CPC certificate and the card together, no later than 5 working days from the test date, for another five years.
